If you or someone you know gets infected by the rabies virus, then prompt medical attention must be given. If infected by rabies, time is a very crucial element in saving the person. Rabies is a viral infection which attacks the person’s nervous system so the longer time elapses, the higher the possibility that the rabies virus has spread throughout the nervous system.
Getting rabies treatment can be done in a local clinic or hospital. Rabies shots can be administered to anyone who got infected by the rabies virus. Also, since prevention is always better than cure, it is also a great way to prevent rabies infection by an anti-rabies vaccine.
The most common sources of rabies in humans are their pets. Cats and dogs should be first brought to the vet in order to get complete shots before a pet is taken home. Also, humans can acquire rabies when they are exposed to wild animals such as skunks, foxes, raccoons, and bats. For this reason, animal handlers such as vets, zoo keepers, lab workers, and those in close contact with animals should all be protected from rabies through vaccines.
If the unexpected happens and you get rabies in any way, then rabies treatment is necessary. A person infected with rabies should get a series of shots starting on the day of infection or bite. A doctor or health worker can administer such shots for rabies treatment. It is necessary for the victim to have the complete set before he can be completely treated for rabies.
