Know the Following Symptoms of Cat Rabies

Cats are one of the best pets, they say. Cats are quiet by nature, cuddly because of their fur, and also very lovable animals. Yet, there are also some threats to the owner especially if the cat do not have complete shots. Cats are also very susceptible to rabies and every owner should know what to watch out for. Know about the different symptoms of cat rabies so you or your loved one can be protected from it:

1. After a cat becomes in contact with a rabid virus, the virus moves slowly to the brain. This takes about two to six weeks. After that, the cat will show signs of rabies more openly.

2. The second phase that shows the symptoms of cat rabies is called prodromal stage. It takes about one to two days. Erratic fever usually occurs as well as nervousness, solitude, and anxiety.

3. The next stage shows the cat to be irritable, restless and even furious. They usually go around and hiss, and turn vicious even to their owners.

4. The next and last stage shows the symptoms of cat rabies that is very well fit in the “paralytic stage”. This means that parts of their bodies will begin to be numb and paralyzed. This can manifest as cats salivate because of their inability to swallow. Dropped jaw, labored breathing, and choking follows. Cats usually get weaker after this stage, their respiratory systems give up, and they eventually die.
