Rabies is a very fatal disease that can be prevented through proper medical care for your DOGS. Because once a dog is diagnosed with rabies, treatment is impossible. And the only way to determine if the real cause for its death is the Lyssa virus is to have the brain of the infected animal removed and examined.
Prevention is still the best method of protecting your DOGS from the deadly virus. Here is a step by step procedure that you can do to ensure that man’s best friend is free from rabies.
Step number one. Always take note of the social life of your dog. Immediately watch your dog after it had contact with any wild animal or with a stray dog. Observe your dog carefully. Average incubation time of the virus is from 3 to 8 weeks.
Step number two. See if your dog looks anxious and nervous most of the time. Check for your dog’s body temperature and see if it has fever. If your dog is behaving erratically, chances are the first stage of infection is happening.
Step number three. Try to notice if there is a sudden change in the dog’s behavior. Has the dog become extra aggressive and vicious than before? If yes, the second stage of infection has definitely begun.
Step number four. This is the time where you have to take note if your dog is having a difficult time to swallow. DOGS that have are hard time swallowing results to its constant salivating.
Step number five which is also the last time is to take the DOGS to a veterinarian as soon as any of the symptoms mentioned earlier appear. This is also the time where you should get vaccinated yourself to ensure your safety as well.
