RABIES SHOTS

Until now, there is still no known medication that can cure rabies infection. This is true for both animals and humans. Once infected by the virus, the result will be fatal. This is the reason why most people still consider prevention is still the best treatment for rabies. And one effective way of rabies prevention is through having rabies SHOTS.

Basically, rabies SHOTS are vaccines given to animals such as dogs and cats to prevent them from developing rabies. It can also be injected to people who are at high risk to get infected due to the nature of their work like veterinarians and zoo keepers. Rabies SHOTS are also recommended to people who travel a lot because they are most likely to be exposed in places where rabies is very common.

There are approximately 20 different kinds of rabies SHOTS in the United States alone. The most common are the ones that use killed rabies virus. Depending on the SHOTS injected, the average immunity period of the vaccine is from 1 to 3 years.

Having yourself and your dog injected with the vaccine will help decrease the chances of rabies infection. But it will only be true for a specific period of time that is why there are countries that require animal owners to have their pets vaccinated with the vaccine on a yearly basis. Failure to comply with such directives will result to penalties and fines to be given to irresponsible animal owners. But most importantly, choosing not to vaccinate will endanger not only your life but the life of your most precious pet as well.
